Inactivity, payments and downgrades

The Free inactivity rule, failed payments and moving to a smaller plan.

The Free inactivity rule#

Studios on Free that nobody uses are paused and then cleared, so storage is not held forever. Any of these counts as activity and resets the clock:

  • a team member signing in;
  • an upload or a publish;
  • a player downloading your game;
  • changing plans.
Days without activityWhat happens
60Owners and admins get a warning email.
75A second warning.
90The studio is paused: players cannot download or update. Installed games still play. Signing in un-pauses it.
120Release files are deleted.

At 120 days, Deltaship deletes your releases and their files. It keeps your account, team, games, players, settings, news and patch notes, your launcher design and its images. The studio is then active again with no releases; upload a build to publish again.

Paid plans have no inactivity rule.

Failed payments#

Days since payment failedWhat happens
Up to 14Nothing changes while payment is retried.
14The studio becomes read-only: players can still install, update and play, but you cannot upload, publish or change things. Owners and admins get an email.
44The studio moves to the Free plan and becomes active again.

Paying, changing plan and cancelling are covered in Upgrade, change plan and cancel. Payments are handled by Paddle. Owners and admins get emails on days 1, 7 and 13, and when the studio becomes read-only; see Emails Deltaship sends.

Cancelling#

When a subscription is cancelled, it stays active until the end of the period you paid for. Then the studio moves to the Free plan, and the rules for a smaller plan below apply if it uses more than Free allows. The Free inactivity rule applies from then on.

Moving to a smaller plan#

If your studio uses more storage than the new plan allows, it becomes read-only for 30 days so you can remove releases yourself. After 30 days, Deltaship removes the oldest published releases until you fit. It never removes a live release, or the newest release of a game on each channel and platform, so a studio that still does not fit stays read-only until you make room. Once you are under the limit, the studio is active again.

If your old plan included your own storage and the new one does not, new uploads go to Deltaship storage and count against the new plan's storage limit. Files already in your bucket keep being served and are not counted.
