Prepare and verify a build

Make a packaged build patch-ready and check it before you ship.

Preparing a build reads every file of a packaged game and records it so the launcher can later download only what changed. It does not change your files.

Prepare#

  1. Package your game as usual, or choose Package project in the Deltaship tab to package it for this computer's platform.
  2. Choose Choose packaged build and pick the folder with your game's executable.
  3. Fill in Version, such as 1.4.2. Launch file, the file players start, is filled in when the plugin can find it (on Windows, the project's .exe at the top of the folder). Check it.
  4. Choose Prepare patch-ready build.

The plugin stores what it recorded in a small .udtk folder inside the build, which is not shipped to players. It also remembers every prepared build in your project, so you can compare with it later even after the old build folder is gone.

Versions use letters, numbers, dots, underscores, plus and minus signs, up to 64 characters. Use a new version for every release of a game on a platform.

Verify#

Choose Verify. It reads every file again and compares it with what was prepared. It reports:

  • Missing files: prepared, but no longer in the folder.
  • Changed files: edited after preparing.
  • Extra files: in the folder but not prepared. They would not be shipped.

Prepare again after you change anything in the build folder.

Large builds#

Preparing and verifying read the whole build. A large game takes a few minutes; progress is shown as the plugin works through the files. Very large single files show no progress until they are finished.
