Upgrade, change plan and cancel
Paying with Paddle, changing plan, cancelling and what a failed payment does.
Plans and prices are on Plans and limits. This page covers how to pay, change plan and cancel, and what happens when a payment fails.
Payments are handled by Paddle, which acts as the merchant of record. Paddle sells the subscription to your studio, collects payment, handles sales tax and VAT, and issues invoices and refunds. Deltaship does not see your card details.
Who can change the plan#
Only a studio owner can upgrade, change plan or open billing details, and the owner's email must be confirmed. Owners can do this even while the studio is read-only because of a failed payment. Free is never sold, and a plan agreed by contract is changed by Deltaship, not in the dashboard.
Upgrade#
- Open Settings, then Plan & usage.
- Under Current plan, find the plan you want, monthly or yearly, and choose Upgrade.
- Pay on Paddle's checkout page.
The new plan applies as soon as Paddle confirms the payment, usually within a minute. Yearly billing shows a lower price per month, billed once a year. Your usage and limits on Plan & usage update with the new plan.
Change plan#
Once you have a subscription, the same list shows Change plan next to the other plans and intervals; your current one is marked Current. A change is prorated by Paddle. The page says Plan change requested until Paddle confirms it.
If you stay on the same plan, you keep the plan terms you signed up on, even if Deltaship has since published new prices or limits for it. Changing to another plan gives you that plan's current terms.
Moving to a smaller plan can leave your studio over the new limits. See Moving to a smaller plan.
Manage billing#
Manage billing opens Paddle's customer portal, where you update your payment method, download invoices and receipts, and cancel.
Cancel#
Cancel from Manage billing. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you have paid for; Plan & usage shows "Cancels at the end of the billing period" with the date. After that the studio moves to the Free plan.
If your studio uses more than Free allows, it is read-only for 30 days so you can remove releases yourself, and then Deltaship removes the oldest releases that are not live until you fit. Live releases are never removed this way. You get an email when the subscription ends. You can subscribe again at any time. See Inactivity, payments and downgrades for the details and for the Free inactivity rule that applies afterwards.
When a payment fails#
Paddle retries the payment. In the meantime:
| Days since payment failed | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1, 7 and 13 | Owners and admins get an email. The day 1 email says nothing changes yet. |
| 14 | The studio becomes read-only. Players can still install, update and play. You cannot upload, publish or change things. |
| 44 | The studio moves to the Free plan and is active again. |
To fix it, an owner opens Plan & usage, chooses Manage billing and updates the payment method. When a payment goes through, the studio is back to normal. The emails link straight to Plan & usage.
